July 29 a regular holiday

By Unknown - Sunday, July 13, 2014

MANILA - President Aquino has declared July 29 a regular holiday to celebrate the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

President Aquino said Republic Act No. 9177 declared Eid’l Fitr (Feast of Ramadhan) as a regular holiday throughout the country.

Proclamation No. 826 said Eid’l Fitr is celebrated by the Muslim World for three days after the end of the month of fasting.

"To promote cultural understanding and integration, the entire Filipino nation should have the full opportunity to join their Muslim brothers and sisters in the observance and celebration of Eid’l Fitr," the proclamation read.

Aquino earlier said Ramadan is a sacred period of reflection and worship, and an opportunity to reinforce discipline, self-control and compassion.

"Our solidarity enables us to learn from each other and create a more unified and harmonious nation where citizens of various beliefs and creeds can work together to uphold peace and harmony," he said
