Tropical Cyclone Warning: Typhoon "Glenda” (Rammasun)

TYPHOON “GLENDA” HAS MAINTAINED ITS STRENGTH AND PASSED VERY CLOSE TO CATARMAN, NORTHERN SAMAR
Location of eye/center: At 10:00 AM today, Typhoon “GLENDA” was estimated based on all available data and PAGASA Virac Radar ay 80 km East of Catarman, Northern Samar or 160 km East Southeast of Legazpi City, Albay (12.7°N, 125.4°E).
Strength: Maximum sustained winds of 120 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 150 kph.
Movement: Forecast to move West at 24 kph.
Forecast Positions: Typhoon “GLENDA” is expected make landfall over Albay-Sorsogon area this afternoon then cross Albay towards Southern Luzon. It is expected to be in the vicinity of NCR by tomorrow morning and will exit the Luzon landmass via Zambales area by afternoon. By Thursday morning, it will be at 300 km West of Sinait, Ilocos Sur and by Friday morning, it is expected to be in the vicinity of Southern China

In Executive Order No. 12, Lee said the class suspension covers "all levels, all areas, private and public."
The suspension will be effective noon "until lifted," she said.
Sorsogon is under Storm Signal No. 2 due to Tropical Storm Glenda (Rammasun).
Mayor Lee ordered the suspension of classes as a pro-active and pre-emptive preparation for the impending Typhoon Glenda

Tropical Storm "GLENDA" has intensified further as it continues to move westward threatening Bicol Region.
Location of eye/center: 620 km East of Virac, Catanduanes (13.3°N, 130.6°E)
Strength: Maximum sustained winds of 95 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 120 kph.
Movement: Forecast to move West at 28 kph.
Forecast Positions: Tropical Storm“GLENDA” is expected to be in the vicinity of Virac Catanduanes by tomorrow morning and at 6240 km Northwest of Dagupan City by Wednesday morning. By Thursday morning, it is expected to be at the vicinity of Southern China

Tropical storm ''Glenda'' (international name ''Rammasun'') is expected to make landfall on Wednesday in the Quezon-Bicol area, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.
Due to Glenda, public storm warning signal number 1 has been hoisted over Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, and Northern Samar. These areas should expect 30 - 60 kph winds in the next 36 hours.
PAGASA said Glenda was spotted 750 kilometers east of Virac, Catanduanes as of 4 a.m. Monday. It was moving west at 30 kilometers per hour.
PAGASA weather forecaster Samuel Duran said at its current speed and direction, Glenda will make landfall somewhere in Quezon Province and Bicol. He said a storm signal may be raised over Metro Manila once Glenda makes landfall.
Glenda also grew stronger, now packing maximum sustained winds of 80 kph near the center and gusts of up to 95 kph. An estimated rainfall of 7.5 – 15 millimeters per hour (moderate - heavy) is expected within the storm's 400-km diameter.
Duran added Glenda may intensify into a typhoon before making landfall.
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon (habagat) will be enhanced once Glenda makes landfall, Duran said.
Fishing boats and other small vessels are advised not to venture out into the Eastern seaboards of Luzon and Visayas.
PAGASA said for Monday, Bicol Region and Eastern Visayas will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and thunderstorms.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.
Although not posing any serious threats at the moment, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) on Sunday told the public to stay away from Bulusan volcano’s permanent danger zone in Sorsogon after volcanic earthquakes were detected.
“During the 24-hour observation period, the seismic network detected thirteen (13) volcanic earthquakes. Ground deformation data from continuous GPS and precise leveling survey also indicated that the volcano is slightly inflated,” Phivolcs said in a statement.
The agency said the volcano’s status is still at alert level 0.
“The local government units and the public are reminded that entry to the four-kilometer radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) is strictly prohibited due to the possibility of sudden and hazardous steam-driven or phreatic eruptions,” Phivolcs said.
It warned against aircraft flying near the volcano’s summit since sudden eruption may be harmful.
“People living within valleys and along river/stream channels should be vigilant against sediment-laden stream flows and lahars in the event of heavy and prolonged rainfall,” it added.
